Oulu (Swedish: Uleåborg) is a Finnish city and the regional centre of the province of North Ostrobothnia. It is located at the mouth of the Oulu River on the coast of the Bothnian Sea and is the administrative and commercial centre of this region. Founded in 1605, Oulu is the oldest city in Northern Finland and the fifth largest in terms of population. Oulu has a population of about 209 940 people. The municipality of Oulu consists of six regional parishes—the events and services offered by the local parishes are open to all. The German Congregation here regularly organises church services and other events in German language.
