Vaasa (Swedish: Vasa) is the regional centre of Ostrobothnia and is located on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia in the province of Ostrobothnia. Vaasa is a university town and an important centre of Finnish–Swedish culture. The city has about 67 100 inhabitants, of whom 67.3 % are Finnish–speaking, 23.4 % Swedish–speaking, and 9.3 % speak other languages. The municipality of Vaasa comprises the Finnish municipality of Vaasa, the Vasa svenska församling and the municipality of Vähänkyrö. The events, activities and services offered by the local parishes are open to all. The German Congregation here regularly organises church services and other events in German language.
