Ylläs (Yllästunturi): Äkäslompolo, Levi, Muonio

Yllästunturi (Ylläs) is a 719.3 metre high mountain in the municipality of Kolari in Western Lapland. Two villages— Äkäslompolo on the north side and Ylläsjärvi on the south side—lie at the foot of the mountain, both deriving their income mainly from tourism. There are two ski centres on Yllästunturi: Iso–Ylläs in Ylläsjärvi and Ylläs–Ski in Äkäslompolo. With a total of 53 kilometres of pistes, spread over 61 runs and 29 lifts, this elevation is one of the largest ski areas in Finland—and since it is north of the Arctic Circle, 'Ylläs' is usually covered with snow from October until May.
