Mikkeli • S:t Michael

Mikkeli (Swedish: S:t Michel) is a Finnish city and the regional centre of the province of South Savo, located on the northwestern shore of Lake Saimaa. The city has 52 077 inhabitants. Mikkeli is located on the watershed between the Vuoksi and Kymijoki rivers. The city centre is located on the Savilahti shore of Lake Saimaa. The lakes in the eastern part of the city belong to the Vuoksi water body. In the west, the city flows into Puulavesi, which in turn belongs to the Mäntyharju river course of Kymijoki. To the north, the city reaches Kyyvede, which flows into Puulavesi. The German Congregation here regularly organises church services and other events in German language.
